The Beautiful Rivers that flow through t he valley of the Medicine Bow and Sierra Madre Mountains are some of the most prolific trout waters in the lower 48. This area is rich in recreational opportunities. Besides exceptional Fly Fishing and Big Game hunting, the area is known for its scenic mountain passes, trails, lakes hot springs and highly rated golf courses.

Ranches in this area rarely come on the market and when they do they are usually bought on private treaty or handed down to the next generation. The Flying Diamond Ranch has only changed hands three times since the Baggots first homesteaded it in 1876.

The first thing you notice when you drive up to the ranch is the pride of ownership. The custom log lodge was constructed in 1991 and has a commanding view of the Sierra Madre Mountains . The Guest house was constructed by the Baggots in 1915, was totally remodeled in 2004 and is used for the ranch’s Fly Fishing guests.

The cattle handling facilities and out buildings are in fine condition and were designed by a cattleman. This ranch is truly blessed with water; numerous warm springs and creeks flow into the Encampment River as it meanders through the property, providing excellent habitat for large game and the many ducks and geese that frequent the ranch. There are 1,376 deeded acres, of which, 800 could be irrigated; 1081 acres BLM lease and 157.8 acres State lease.

The Encampment River is a Blue Ribbon trout stream with many fish per mile. Rainbow Trout will average between 17- 19 inches and the Brown Trout will average 14-18 inches. This stretch of the river has been known to produce fish over the 26 inch ramge.

To this moment add the difficulty in finding a ranch in the Saratoga area with the attraction of the Encampment River with its reputation as a National fly fishing destination and host to one of Wyoming ‘s special places. Only then does one really appreciate this offering.
