Schwenneker Homestead: SOLD
Fishtail, Montana
- Stillwater Valley
The Schwenneker Homestead is one of the more Scenic mountain ranches on the Beartooth Front. Very seldom do ranches in this area come on the market, they are usually handed down to family members or bought up by neighboring ranches. The 664 alpine acres is a combination of irrigated hay meadows, lush creek bottoms, and rolling hills of timber with open parks. This ranch is rich in History; John Henry Schwenneker first came to the Nye area in the 1880s when it was still Crow Country, he started his ranch on Prarie Dog Creek, below the highest peaks in Montana. Today the Nye area still has the feel of old Montana, with stunning views, the abundance of wildlife, and the sense of a caring community.
Water rights were first filed in 1882 out of Rocky Creek to irrigate the lower hay meadows of the ranch. The western part of the ranch served as pasture for livestock and logging, for personal use. Yellowstone Park is 30 miles SW of the ranch as far as the Crow Fly, elk, deer, bear, wolves, moose, turkey’s and grouse do migrate through the ranch.
Nye is a mountain town with a mom and pops store, K through 6 schools, post office, Saloon, restaurant, and fire department. Absarokee is 27 miles from the ranch and is a full-service town with a high school. Billings, Montana is 78 mostly paved miles from the ranch.
There are 22 acres contiguous to the ranch with a ranch style home that can be purchased along with the ranch.
